Healing: An Energy Perspective

I am delighted to join with the other writers on this site to share my ideas on healing and on living a happy fulfilling life.  My perspective on healing is seen through the lens of the energy flow in our lives.  As a Feng Shui consultant, I’ll be writing about how the energy of your home impacts your life as you work with healing and change. As an astrologer I’ll share how the energies of the planets bring opportunities to heal and also to transform your life. And finally as an Energy Body Worker, I will discuss ways you can work with the body’s energy system to create healing and peace in your life.

To lay a foundation on how energy functions in the different areas of your life, first consider your home and how day after day you live in this space and are impacted by what goes on here. Life force energy know as chi, qi, prana, or mana  permeates every molecule of space in your home.  As it flows through your home, it nourishes each area.  Chi creates the aliveness in your home just as oxygen creates aliveness in your body. if you feel uplifted and happy when you are at home, you probably have good Feng Shui.  If on the other hand, you feel stuck, depressed or anxious, the energy of your home may not be supporting you to heal and have the best life possible.

A simple way to test the Feng Shui of your home is to walk through and see if there are places where your energy rises and places where it drops, and especially if there are rooms you avoid.  Notice if there is clutter in the areas where your energy falls, or if it is poorly lit or has furniture or artwork that reminds you of sad times. These things diminish the chi.  You have just experienced Feng Shui and how the energy of your home actually causes you to feel a certain way.

Next, let’s explore how astrology impacts your energy as you move through your daily life. Astrology describes the cycles of nature.  The cycle we are most familiar with is the seasons – spring, summer, fall and winter. Our society has gotten away from living in attunement with the natural cycles and generally, we just live full-speed-ahead never considering that this yearly cycle is suggesting a certain energy flow. The seasonal cycle unfolds with a time for new beginnings (spring), productivity and blooming (summer), harvesting & reaping results (autumn) and finally rest and hibernation (winter). Some people have begun to use this cycle for eating, body cleansing and fasting, but in general it is ignored.

Then there are the cycles of the moon each month when energies build during the waxing moon and energies decrease during the waning moon.  During waxing phases (new moon to full moon) start projects and things you want to grow and get bigger in your life. A simple everyday example is get your hair cut during this time if you want it to grow.  During waning phases (full moon to new moon) do things that you want to release or prevent from getting any bigger in your life.  Get your hair cut during this phase and it will not grow as fast.  These are examples of simple cycles.  There are other more complex cycles such as Mercury retrograde, eclipses and special sky alignments which also impact us. I will be writing about these on the Yin Yang Spirit page as they occur.

And finally, consider the energy system of your body.  Your body’s energy system consists of your aura which is an energy field around your body; your chakras which are seven spinning vortexes of energy located up and down your spine, and your meridians which are the  twelve energy pathways that flow throughout your body. The health of your body is impacted by the condition of these three components of your energy system. How you feel each day – happy, spacey, depressed, anxious – is also impacted by this energy system.

If you feel spacy and unfocused, your energy system may not be grounded to the earth.  A simple way to become acquainted with your body’s energy system is to do a grounding exercise each morning before you get out of bed.  Visualize an energy root shaped like the root of a big tree running from your first chakra, located at the very bottom of your spine, down to the center of the earth. Feel how much more stable you feel and fully present you are.  If you can not tell a difference at first, keep at it.  You may need to train your “awareness muscle” to feel the more subtle energies of your body.

Consider how these three factors, Feng Shui, Astrology and the Body’s Energy System impact on an unseen level your health,  healing and happiness.  I will be posting regularly articles on these three areas to help you become more skilled in dealing with energy at all of  these levels.
